Overview

This full-day small-group tour pairs a proper coastal walk with a relaxed hot springs finish, making it a good option if you want more than just a bus trip around the Mornington Peninsula. You’ll start with wide views from Arthur’s Seat, then head out on a guided 5km return hike to Bushrangers Bay through Mornington Peninsula National Park. After a café lunch stop, the day wraps up with two hours at Peninsula Hot Springs, with bath house entry and towels included. It’s a solid pick if you’re happy with moderate activity and want a day that mixes scenery, wildlife and a bit of comfort.

Why backpackers love it

This one works well if you want an organised day out of Melbourne without having to sort transport, park entry or hot springs tickets yourself. The small-group setup keeps it less chaotic than a big coach tour, and the mix of hiking and soaking gives you more than one kind of day. It’s not a cheap outing, but you do get national park entry, hot springs access, towels and guided walking included, which helps justify the price if you’re after a full-day escape.

What to expect

The day begins with the drive out from Melbourne in a small group of 4 to 11 guests. First up is Arthur’s Seat for panoramic ocean views and morning tea. From there, you’ll tackle the main walk: a guided 5km return hike to Bushrangers Bay, following an undulating coastal track with rocky bays, wild ocean views and a lighthouse along the way. You may also spot kangaroos and native birds.

After the hike, there’s a shorter walk around the Cape Schanck lighthouse precinct before stopping at a local café to buy lunch. The final stretch is spent at Peninsula Hot Springs, where you’ll have around two hours to use the bath house. Bring a swimsuit, water bottle, sun protection and comfortable walking shoes. A moderate fitness level is needed, and it’s not recommended for travellers with poor cardiovascular health.
