Cape Range National Park Full-Day Trek

4 hours to 1 day

Overview

This full-day guided trek is a more active way to see Cape Range than a standard sightseeing tour. You’ll join a small group of up to six people and head into more remote parts of the national park, including off-track sections that most visitors won’t access on their own. The day combines inland hiking with coastal walking, plus a bush lunch and a swim stop if conditions allow. It’s a good option if you want big views, a bit of challenge and a closer look at the landscape around Exmouth.

Why backpackers love it

This one suits backpackers who want an actual day outdoors rather than a bus-heavy tour. The group is kept small, so it feels more personal, and the mix of ridge walking, coastline and a swim gives you a lot in one day without needing to organise your own route. It’s not the cheapest option, but for travellers short on time in Exmouth, it packs in access, guiding and lunch in a way that makes planning easy. Just be realistic about the fitness level, especially in hot weather.

What to expect

The day starts with a guided hike into Cape Range, where you’ll trek to a remote ridgeline for wide views across the North West Cape and out towards Ningaloo Reef. Expect one or two short treks, usually around 6 kilometres in total depending on weather and the group’s fitness, with steep rocky gullies, uneven ground and a daypack of up to 4 kilograms. After a bush lunch in a scenic spot, the experience shifts to the coast for a walk past white sand beaches, ancient coastal dunes and limestone headlands. There’s also the chance for a swim in a turquoise lagoon. If time allows, the day may finish with a stop at Mangrove Bay or a final climb up a coastal dune before heading back to Exmouth.
