Ningaloo Turtle Watching and Stargazing Tour

This evening tour takes you to Jurabi Coastal Park on the Ningaloo Coast to learn about one of the world’s most important turtle rookeries. With experienced guides leading the way, you’ll watch the sunset, hear about turtle conservation and the local viewing code of conduct, then head onto the beach to try to observe nesting female turtles. If conditions suit, there’s also time for stargazing in Ningaloo’s dark skies using star maps and binoculars. It’s a more nature-focused outing than a standard sightseeing trip, and best suited to travellers who are happy with a guided outdoor experience after dark.

The tour starts in the early evening with guides introducing the area and explaining turtle behaviour, nesting habits and how wildlife viewing is managed responsibly. You’ll have a light snack and a cool drink while the sun goes down, then move onto the beach after sunset to put that information into practice and look for female turtles nesting. Red lights are used to reduce disturbance to wildlife. Later in the evening, if the moon phase allows, the focus shifts to the night sky, with binoculars and star maps provided for stargazing. Wear enclosed shoes and bring a warm layer, as it can cool down after dark. A moderate level of fitness is recommended.
