Overview
This guided evening bus tour is a handy way to see more of Rottnest Island without cycling across the island yourself. Over 1 hour 45 minutes, you’ll head to the West End by air-conditioned coach, with commentary along the way and stops at places including Wadjemup Lighthouse, Cape Vlamingh and Cathedral Rocks. It’s a good option if you want coastal views, wildlife spotting and a sunset session before returning to the settlement. Just note that ferry transport to and from Rottnest Island is not included and needs to be booked separately.
Why backpackers love it
If you’re short on time or don’t want the effort of riding out to the far side of the island, this makes the West End much easier to reach. It packs in coastal scenery, a decent chance to see seals and a sunset viewpoint in one short trip, so it works well as an add-on to a day on Rottnest rather than a full-day tour. The price is relatively accessible, but remember you’ll need to budget separately for your ferry.
What to expect
The tour runs on Friday and Saturday evenings from December to April. You’ll travel by coach to some of the island’s best-known western lookouts, with live commentary during the drive. Stops include Wadjemup Lighthouse and the West End, where you can take in the views from Cape Vlamingh and look for New Zealand long-nose fur seals at Cathedral Rocks. After the tour, you return towards the Settlement, with an optional drop-off at Geordie Bay available.
