Audrey Wilkinson Picnic and Wine Masterclass

1 to 4 hours

Overview

This is a relaxed Hunter Valley winery experience that mixes wine tasting with time to slow down and enjoy the property. You’ll start with a self-guided visit to the onsite museum, then join a masterclass-style premium tasting led by the winery’s in-house wine expert. After that, you’ll collect a bottle of wine and a picnic hamper and find your own scenic spot across the 270-acre vineyard to settle in among the vines.

It’s more polished than a basic cellar door tasting, so it suits travellers who want a slightly more special winery stop rather than the cheapest drink option.

Why backpackers love it

It keeps things easy by combining tasting, food and time in the vineyard in one booking, so there’s not much organising once you arrive. The self-guided picnic part also gives you a bit of freedom rather than locking you into a fully hosted tour the whole time.

It’s a good pick for couples or mates travelling together who want a winery experience with a bit more substance than a quick tasting. Accessibility is also a plus, with wheelchair-friendly access across the venue.

What to expect

The experience runs for around two hours, with departure times available at 10:30am, 12 noon, 1:30pm and 3pm. After checking in, you can explore the onsite museum at your own pace before the guided wine masterclass and premium tasting.

Once the tasting wraps up, you’ll be given a handpicked bottle of wine and your picnic hamper. From there, you choose where to sit within the vineyard grounds and enjoy the views in a quieter, more self-directed way. An etched Audrey Wilkinson glass is included per person. Bookings require a minimum of two people, and guests need to be 18 or over.
