Darwin to Kakadu Day Trip by Air with Yellow Water Cruise

4 hours to 1 day

Overview

If you want to see Kakadu in a day without spending hours on the road, this air tour is the fast way to do it. It is a premium day trip rather than a budget option, but it covers a lot in a short time: more than two hours of scenic flying, a Yellow Water Cruise, lunch and drinks at Cooinda, and a visit to an Aboriginal Visitor Centre. National park fees are included, and every passenger gets a window seat on the flights.

Why backpackers love it

This suits travellers who are short on time and still want a solid look at Kakadu without turning it into a multi-day trip. The big draw is convenience: flights cut down the long travel time, while the cruise and lunch are already organised. It is not the cheapest way to visit, but if you are only in Darwin briefly and want to pack in major scenery in one day, it does the job well.

What to expect

You will need to check in 30 minutes before departure. From Darwin, you will fly by light aircraft over the Arafura Coast, floodplains, winding rivers and the Arnhem Land Plateau, with commentary through a headset. Depending on the season, flights may also include views of Jim Jim and Twin Falls in the wet season. On the ground in Kakadu, the day includes the Yellow Water Cruise, time for lunch at Cooinda, and a stop at an Aboriginal Visitor Centre before flying back to Darwin in the late afternoon. Flights operate subject to weather, and passenger weights must be provided at booking due to aircraft limits.
