This small-group nature tour is a comfortable way to get out of Darwin and see a different side of the Top End without hiring a car. You’ll travel with a maximum of six guests in a Mercedes touring vehicle, with your own window seat, while your guide shares local history and insight into the wetlands and wildlife around Darwin. The main stop is Fogg Dam Reserve, known for its birdlife and easy access through the wetlands, followed by a visit to the Humpty Doo Hotel on the way back. It’s a more personal, higher-comfort option than a standard bus tour, and the price reflects that.
Free cancellation

Why backpackers love it
If you want to see the wetlands without sorting your own transport, this keeps things easy. The group is capped at six, so it feels more relaxed and less like a big coach outing, and hotel or airport transfers help if you’re short on time. It’s not the cheapest way to get around, but you do get a more personal guided trip, national park entry, binoculars, water and extra comfort included. Good if you want wildlife, local knowledge and straightforward logistics in one half-day trip.
The tour starts with pick-up from Darwin city accommodation, the cruise ship terminal, or the airport. As you leave the city, your guide gives commentary on Darwin’s history before heading out to Fogg Dam Reserve. Here, you’ll drive through the wetlands and look out for birdlife and other wildlife, with binoculars provided to help you spot more along the way. Bottled water is included, and the guide also takes wildlife photos that are later supplied electronically. On the return trip, there’s a stop at the Humpty Doo Hotel, where you can buy a meal or drink from the local menu if you want to. After that, you’re dropped back in Darwin or at the airport.
