10-Day Adelaide to Perth Adventure Tour

3+ days

Overview

This is a full overland journey for travellers who want to cross a huge stretch of southern Australia without sorting the logistics themselves. Over 10 days, you’ll travel nearly 4,000km from Adelaide to Perth, camping along the way and visiting places including the Flinders Ranges, Eyre Peninsula, Nullarbor Plain, Esperance and Margaret River. The trip mixes big landscapes with hands-on activities such as swimming with wild sea lions and dolphins, learning to surf, sandboarding and taking part in a conservation activity. Transport, a driver-guide, camping accommodation and the listed activities are included, so it suits backpackers who are up for an active trip and don’t mind roughing it at times.

Why backpackers love it

For backpackers, the main draw is how much ground this trip covers without needing your own car, gear or a complicated plan. It links two major cities while taking in sections of Australia that are hard to do cheaply or easily on public transport alone. The camping setup keeps it more adventure-focused than comfortable, but that’s part of the appeal if you want the social side of group travel and a proper outback-to-coast run. With most activities included, it also gives you more than just transport between stops.

What to expect

Expect long travel days, changing scenery and a fairly active pace. You’ll head west from Adelaide through arid country, coastal stretches and bushland, stopping in country towns and natural areas along the route. Nights are mostly spent camping, including one bush camp with no facilities and the rest at camps with basic facilities. Along the way, the tour includes wildlife experiences, Aboriginal cultural elements and outdoor activities like surf lessons and sandboarding. Travel is by air-conditioned minivan with a maximum of 20 passengers, so it’s a group trip rather than an independent road trip. A reasonable level of fitness is needed, and it’s not recommended for travellers with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health.
