Freycinet & Wineglass Bay Day Trip from Launceston

4 hours to 1 day

Overview

This is a full-day trip from Launceston to Freycinet National Park, built around walking, sightseeing and fitting a lot into one day. You’ll visit the Wineglass Bay area, stop at Honeymoon Bay and Cape Tourville, and break up the drive with East Coast food and history stops along the way. It suits travellers who want to see one of Tasmania’s best-known coastal landscapes without organising their own transport, but it is a fairly active day rather than a slow scenic cruise.

Why backpackers love it

It makes a big Tasmania day trip straightforward: transport, park entry and guiding are sorted, so you can reach Freycinet without hiring a car. The small-group setup is useful if you’re travelling solo or want something more social than doing the route alone. It’s best for backpackers who are reasonably fit and want a packed day with proper walking and standout coastal views, rather than a cheap or low-effort sightseeing run.

What to expect

The day starts with pickup from selected central Launceston hotels and hostels, then heads out by air-conditioned minivan towards the East Coast. In Freycinet National Park, the main walk is to the Wineglass Bay Lookout, with the option to continue down to the beach if you want a longer walk. There are also stops at Honeymoon Bay and the Cape Tourville Lighthouse Walk, known for its 360-degree views. Along the way, the itinerary may include Campbell Town and the Convict Brick Trail, plus chances to buy local seafood, ice-cream and wine tasting at Devils Corner at your own expense. National park entry is included, and the pace is described as fast and active, though shorter walking options are available for those wanting an easier day.
