Litchfield National Park Waterfalls & Wildlife Tour

4 hours to 1 day

Overview

This full-day trip from Darwin combines wildlife watching, rainforest and some of Litchfield National Park’s best-known swimming spots. You’ll visit Fogg Dam Conservation Centre to look for birds and reptiles, walk among the giant Magnetic Termite Mounds, then head into the park for time at Florence Falls and a swim in the cool water at Buley Rockhole. Transport is by air-conditioned mini-coach with commentary from an experienced Outback driver-guide, and selected Darwin city pick-up and drop-off is included. There’s also an optional jumping crocodile cruise upgrade if you want to add that on.

Why backpackers love it

If you’re based in Darwin and want to get out into the Top End without hiring a car, this is a straightforward way to see a few of Litchfield’s highlights in one day. The mix of wildlife, swimming and national park scenery keeps it varied, and the included city pick-up makes logistics easier. It’s not a low-effort sightseeing coach trip though — there’s a moderate amount of walking and it won’t suit everyone with mobility issues. The optional crocodile cruise is handy if you want a bigger wildlife-focused day and don’t mind paying extra.

What to expect

The day starts with pick-up in Darwin before heading out by mini-coach with guided commentary along the way. One of the first nature stops is Fogg Dam Conservation Centre, where you may spot a wide range of local wildlife, especially birds and reptiles. In Litchfield National Park, you’ll stop to see the large Magnetic Termite Mounds, then continue to the waterfall areas. Expect some walking on uneven ground, so decent shoes are a good idea. You’ll have time to explore Florence Falls and cool off with a swim at Buley Rockhole, so bring swimmers, a towel, sunscreen and water. The itinerary can change with seasonal weather conditions.
