3-Day Red Centre Camping Tour from Alice Springs

1 to 3 days

Overview

This three-day small group trip gives you a solid snapshot of the Red Centre, covering Uluru, Kata Tjuta and Kings Canyon with an accredited outback guide. It is a camping-based tour rather than a comfort trip, with two nights at permanent outback campsites and a choice between a twin safari tent or a traditional swag. The national park pass is included, and the focus is on guided walks, commentary and spending time in the landscape rather than rushing through quick photo stops.

Why backpackers love it

If you want to see the big Red Centre highlights in one go without organising transport, park passes and camping logistics yourself, this is an easy way to do it. The small group setup and shared camp jobs make it more social than a standard coach tour, and the swag option keeps the outback feel front and centre. It is better suited to active travellers who are happy with early starts, group participation and a more hands-on camping style than anyone chasing a relaxed or low-effort trip.

What to expect

The tour starts in Alice Springs and heads out into the Red Centre for three days of sightseeing and bush walks. Along the way, you’ll visit Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, with time to explore Uluru and either the Valley of the Winds or Walpa Gorge at Kata Tjuta, plus Kings Canyon. Walks are around 6 to 8 kilometres and the trip is described as physical, so you’ll need a moderate to high fitness level and decent mobility. Drinking water is supplied on board, but you need to bring your own bottle. At camp, you’ll be asked to help with meal prep, cleaning up and loading or unloading the vehicle. The tour usually finishes back in Alice Springs, with select departures ending in Uluru/Yulara depending on shuttle availability.
